In 2014, K.Kapniaris, launched his new espresso and cocktail bar in Thessaloniki, based on the movement of third wave coffee and the artisanal production of cocktails.
The identity designed for this Third Wave coffee house, brought elements from custom typography, illustrations and vivid colour schemes. The joy and happiness of a quality brewed coffee; or a highly crafted cocktail, were encapsulated in the visuals of the brand. For highlighting the uniqueness in all crafts, the forms are more natural, organic, fluid and there is not one logotype, but more than 10 – in order to visualise the motto of Third Wave coffee house: “Crafted to your needs”.
‘The Wave’ font, custom typeface for Third Wave coffee house
A unique hand written display font was designed for the promotional needs of the Third Wave coffee house and its cocktail events. Based on a slightly condensed and monospaced font grid, the ‘Wave Font’ is a robust, steady yet organic typeface which is used throughout the applications. As shown here, several terminals and decorative side elements were also developed for variations of the general look and feel.
‘Blob font’, the other custom typeface for Third Wave coffee house
As a complementary font to the ‘Wave font’, a second one was designed for Third Wave coffee house. More bulky, rounded and more fluid, the ‘Blob font’ is based on a monospaced, tight and condensed grid as well and features rounded appearance and a more bold overall look. The font, follows the same principal for producing its variation but in a more smooth form.
